GreenAcres To Open Its Fifth Park In 2014
23 December 2013

GreenAcres Woodland Burials has been chosen to take on the development of a new site for East Hampshire District Council's natural burial ground near Headley and Grayshott.

GreenAcres, a division of Bibby Line Group, which already operates four parks around the UK (Norfolk, Essex, Buckinghamshire and Liverpool ) will now run Heatherley Wood in East Hampshire and signed the 75-year-lease, on Wednesday 11th December. This represents the culmination of an innovative project to reclaim a piece of land lost to industry and provide a viable alternative to a local shortage of burial space. The site was previously used for commercial purposes but has been turned back into green heathland, thanks to extensive landscaping and planting work.

East Hampshire District Council agreed to turn the site into a woodland burial ground in 2012, offering an alternative to traditional burial methods, and have worked hard to find the right operator to run it which resulted in the appointment of GreenAcres Burial Parks.

A woodland burial is a growing option for many who do not wish to have a formal or religious service or those who have chosen cremation but still want a special place to remember and GreenAcres were able to demonstrate its history of customer service excellence and care for the woodland environment.

Cllr Richard Millard, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Commercial Contracts, said: "We are delighted that GreenAcres Burial Parks will manage the Heatherley Wood site. This represents a real success for the council and is testament to our hard work and determination to find exactly the right operator for our site. The burial ground will be a beautiful and tranquil resting place, not only for the residents of Grayshott and Headley, where burial space is scarce, but also for residents across the district and beyond who want their passing to have a minimal impact on the environment."

Andy Paling, Managing Director of GreenAcres Burial Parks, said: "We are pleased to be able to share our long experience of providing a sustainable alternative to a traditional burial or ashes environment and we very much look forward to delivering our award winning customer service to the local community."

All GreenAcres Burial Parks welcome people of all beliefs and denominations and hosts funerals and ceremonies whether religious or secular. The Heatherley Wood Park will be fully operational by September 2014 and will provide facilities for full burials, ashes burials and scatterings as well as a bespoke building for funeral services and wakes. No cremations take place on site and graves are marked by wooden posts or carvings which can be as simple or as personal as the family likes.
